My name is Hildur Hinriksdóttir. I am an Icelandic designer and artisan based in Rome.  I graduated from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin and Rome in 2000, and since then I have worked with fashion, costumes, hats, accessories, and many forms of handmade design. Over the years, I have created costumes for theatre productions, including Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and designed outfits for the Icelandic singer and actress Margrét Eir.

I have never been able to limit myself to just one kind of design or craft. Sewing, knitting, crochet, jewellery making, hats, costumes, clothes — for me, they all belong to the same creative world. I love working with my hands, learning new techniques, combining materials, and allowing each piece to grow naturally.

Handmade work is at the heart of everything I do. I come from an Icelandic tradition where making things by hand has been passed down through generations — not only as a skill, but as a way of thinking, caring, and creating.

My work carries that tradition with me, while also being shaped by my life in Rome, where I live with my husband and our two sons.
